Vacation? Staycation!

Storytime

Are you ready for a summer vacation? Then Storytime at the Amon Carter is the place to be!

This week, discover how to go on vacation without leaving your home. Bring your family to hear stories, look at art, and create something inspired by at-home adventures! A snack will be provided.

During each Storytime, adults can register their participating children to win that week’s featured books. A drawing will be held at the end of each program; those chosen do not need to be present to win.

This program is best for families with children ages 8 and under and their adult companions. If you work for a summer school or day care, we offer a customized experience for your students on different days. Please call 817.989.5036 or email schooltours@cartermuseum.org for more information.

Storytime is held every Wednesday, June 7 through July 26, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The museum is unable to validate paid parking at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Parking information.

Sharing the Past Through Art

Access Program

Designed for adults with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, participants discuss artists, exhibitions, and themes and use artworks to connect to past experiences.

This program is offered on the second Thursday of every month.

There is a designated barrier-free entrance near accessible parking for vehicles displaying the appropriate disability permits on Lancaster Avenue (the museum’s south side). Call 817.989.5013 or email education@cartermuseum.org to receive helpful instructions and parking information.

Sensory Saturdays

Family Access Program

This is a free program for families with children who are 5 to 12 years old and on the autism spectrum. Families will have time to explore artworks in the galleries and get creative during a hands-on, art-making experience!

While the needs of individuals with autism are the focus of this program, it is also intended to be fun for parents, siblings (of all ages), and other relatives!

VOICES of Fort Worth

Performance

In their first appearance at the Amon Carter, VOICES of Fort Worth will provide an afternoon of musical selections inspired by the museum’s collection. This local ensemble will perform in the museum’s Atrium, offering the opportunity to spread their melodic harmonies throughout the galleries.

Founded in 2012, VOICES is a consort of highly skilled singers whose vocal blend and exceptional musicianship combine to create a unique presentation that spans every musical period from early Renaissance to contemporary music, including original compositions and arrangements by Artistic Director and founder, Dr. Jerome Bierschenk.

Please note that seating will be limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Close Encounters

Access Program

Designed for people of all ages with low or no vision and their guests, participants utilize tactile tools and conversation to connect with artworks in the museum’s collection.

Artist Talk: Ellen Carey

Lecture

In conjunction with the special exhibition The Polaroid Project, artist Ellen Carey will discuss her experimental work with Polaroid from the 1970s to the present. Her lecture will address a range of her images, including her earliest “selfies” to her breakthrough, abstract Pulls that use the large format Polaroid 20-by-24-inch camera and are included in the exhibition.

Carey is a photographer and lens-based artist, as well as an educator and independent scholar. Named one of the top ten photographers working in abstraction by Widewalls, Carey has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions. She lives and works in New York and Hartford, CT, where she is an associate professor of photography at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford.

Infant Program

Bring your baby (up to 11 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Brandi Cline, licensed massage therapist, as she leads an infant massage session inspired by the Amon Carter’s collection.

Discover the health benefits of infant massage while learning how to teach your baby to relax. Learn to safety and effectively apply massage techniques to your child.

Infant Program

Bring your baby (up to 11 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Audrey Rowland, early childhood specialist, as she leads an age-appropriate play session inspired by the Amon Carter’s collection.

In this session, examine what types of play infants enjoy, what types of materials extend play and curiosity, and play’s impact on brain development. You will also explore materials that are more valuable to play than the typical toys.

Infant Program

Bring your baby (up to 11 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Sarah Newton as she leads an age-appropriate creative movement session inspired by the Amon Carter’s collection.

Creative movement is an inclusive movement experience that utilizes the body to express an emotion, explore an idea, or discover new movement potential. In this session, you will move with your baby, discovering the joy and possibilities of movement in relationship to the elements of art.
